A long history

The Münster Valley is one of the most beautiful mountain valleys in South Tyrol and Switzerland.

The border valley between Italy and Switzerland will captivate you with its unique natural and cultural landscapes, which have remained completely unspoiled. The harmonious villagescapes have shaped its character over the decades.

Taufers im Münstertal

The name Taufers is derived from the Latin “TUBER” or from the Rhaeto-Romanic “TUER”, which more or less means scree cone or hump. Historians are certain that the valley had already been settled during pre-Roman times.

Evidence of this includes a bronze-age lugged axe found locally. Later evidence of settlement are linguistic references from the time of the Rhaetians, from whom the Rhaeto-Romanic language comes that was spoken in Taufers until the mid-18th century and from which the field names that are still in use today are derived.
