The special sights in South Tyrol and in particular in Val Venosta/Vinschgau include the numerous churches that can be found in every town. In Tubre in Val Monastero/Taufers im Münstertal alone there are 8 churches to admire, which are all well preserved – the parish church of St. Blaise plus cemetery chapel, St. Anton, St. John, St. Martin, St. Michael, St. Nicholas, St. Rochus in Puntweil and St. Valentine in nearby Rifair. These churches can all be visited on a leisurely hike.
One church tower among the sights in South Tyrol has already achieved considerable fame beyond the region's borders – the St. Katharina church tower, which rises out of Lago di Resia/Reschensee and fascinates the locals and guests time and time again. You can find out more about the history of Vecchio Curon/Alt-Graun and the church tower at the Upper Vinschgau Valley Museum.
Other sights in South Tyrol or nearby Switzerland are two monasteries:
The Monte Maria Abbey in South Tyrol is situated above Burgusio/Burgeis and offers a breathtaking view over Val Venosta/Vinschgau. The Benedictine monastery of St. Johann in Müstair is just the other side of the Swiss border in the canton of Grisons and has been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 1983.
Pick one or two sights in South Tyrol or Switzerland out that are particularly interesting and be captivated by the beauty of the churches and monasteries in South Tyrol.
